A common coffee machine is the espresso machine. These machines make coffee by using steam that is pumped through tightly packed finely ground coffee beans. The result of this process varies according to how the operator chooses to make it, which depends on the options available for their machine. These machines vary from one that simply pumps steam at Bar 15 pressure through a porta filter that holds ground coffee to programmable ones. Programmable machines will grind your coffee, make your espresso your way and even dispose the spent grounds and then sends a clean rinse through the machine. Some machines may have other attachments to make cappuccinos and lattes. Some machines similar to espressos use a higher pressure of 19 bars.
After the initial purchase of a single serve coffee machine which ranges in price from $85 to $190, the cost per cup of coffee is much less than that of a cup of coffee from a gourmet coffeehouse. The average cost per cup of coffee is anywhere from $0.65 to $1.25 with a Keurig coffee machine. Compare this to upwards of $5.00 per cup at a coffeehouse. You will save a lot of money with the single serve coffee brewer.
This generally will not be available for low volume domestic machines. If you are considering a Bean to Cup machine for your business it should be noted that they are manufactured to different volume categories. Machines have to be matched to daily cups/day requirements/estimates, drink size and how quickly they will be needed. All Manufacturers cups/day specifications are based upon an 8oz serving with numbers spread evenly throughout the day. Typically low volume bean to cup can produce up to 50 coffees per day. Medium volume machines range between 100 and 150 a day. Medium to High volume would be 150 - 200 a day.
